JAMES ALCIEL WAKE
23 | slytherin | "employed" | order of the phoenix | Benedict Cumberbacth

DESCRIPTION

James Wake is a tall, clean shaven young man with cold calculating blue eyes. His smirk carries with it a certain dark brand of humor, his attitude untempered by the appearance of his left arm, a black, hideous abomination of human skin. Just as well- it is composed of metal alloys after all. With a height of 5'11.5," the man cuts an imposed figure wherever he goes, clad in a thick brown cloak that always appears to filled with one thing or another. The jacket is considerably heavy, designed to defend against certain spells that would otherwise affect the clothed man. His skin appears to be lightly scarred in certain areas, marks of his days in the field. He walks with a straight and certain gait, eyes always casting about for the next threat subtly. His hair is short, brown and coarse, often unkempt with the passing days He attempts to stay well-shaven, though his hair always needs to be pushed out of the way in order for him to read.

HISTORY

THE MARK OF THE PACK

James Wake was born on April 19th, 1997 in the Alps, a product of two werewolves who sought the perfect heir to their pack. Their dreams were placed upon the boy in a dark time, a time when they were courted by the forces of both light and dark. His father, Thadeus L. Wake, was a member a long and storied family of purebloods. When his family threw themselves at the gates of the Ministry to keep a grasp upon their fledgling power, Thadeus was installed as the head of his house. The Death Eaters, his former colleagues and friends, were willing to look over his hideous deformation, so long as his pack followed them into battle.

James' mother, Melinda A. Wake, was the true alpha of their pack however, and though she had loved Thaddeus dearly, there was no way she would allow her brothers and sisters to lose their lives fighting for a side of storied bigots. She was tempted instead by the honeyed words and promises made by the hobbled Ministry. The Ministry, however, had sent poor judges to suit the werewolves. They had sent a pair of Aurors, one Belinda Greystone and Michael Burroughs. Both had witnessed the vicious power of the werewolves, and had adopted the most dangerous position of all- they could only see monsters where their fellow wizards stood.

When James turned four, he witnessed the true wrath of those whose views were clouded with blood and vengeance. The Aurors, growing fearful as the days waned, had turned to violence, striking down the werewolf clan in a brutal and visceral attack. Thadeus' friends had attempted to stand their ground, their love for their friend stronger than their hatred for the wolves, but both were arrested in the following chaos. They would be tried and imprisoned on the charge of Belinda Greystone, a patron of Azkaban and a fine-tuned Auror.

But both would ascertain their innocence, for neither played a role in her horrifying death.

The blame lay with the orphan Belinda had created, and monster Michael had made through an act he could only perceive as a kindness.

Belinda's remains were found, besmirching a wall. Investigators could only chalk the crime up to an "explosion." For that was exactly what had happened. For as the Home of the Wakes was being torn to the ground, James' father, in an act that would scar the boy forever, had chosen that his bloodright needed to be passed along- he had bitten into his son's fragile arm, believing, as he died, that he had given his son one last gift- lycantropy. The poison of the Werewolf. Michael had discovered the sobbing boy, clutching a broken, bitten arm, horrified, afraid, and had done only what he thought was best- he severed the boy's arm, and "saved" him from becoming another beast. What neither had known was James' latent power had pooled into his emotional outcry... all it took was one touch from Belinda. The explosion of power that erupted had scarred Michael and left Belinda a mere stain upon the wall that represented James' past.

And all James was one arm, and a stump- the mark of his pack, now severed and deceased.

ALCHEMIC BONDAGE

James Wake's custody shifted between boarding homes throughout the countryside. His stories of friendly wolves, strange questions and prosthetic brought him both pain and enmity. It was not an enviable life, but it was the life the young boy had been left with. He began and forgot several languages, though English, French, and German all stuck well. Finally, when he turned six, his only direct family finally stepped in to claim him. His name was Alan Wake, a man who helped shape the very world that struggled to forget him. Alan, you see is an Alchemist. Not just any Alchemist- for nearly hundred years, Alan Wake's ceaseless mind has worked harshly to build a world shaped by fortuitous study, rather than slapdash spells concocted in some wizard-god-forsaken toiletry.

Alan Wake's interest in his nephew stemmed from the boy's ability to care for himself, a scrawny young lad at the age of six. The results improved with time.

But James was not to live the life of the average child- not yet, and not ever. He would not require further schooling- he was trained from that early age in the sciences and math of Alchemy, a practice that, to this day, is rarely acknowledged. Alchemy is neither fast, nor is it strong. It is flexible, and everything boils down to the implementation. For alchemists, life is like a program. Its classes are defined, altered ever so slightly over time in some hidden implementation. The Alchemists were the ones that worked effortlessly to break that code up and recycled it.

Alchemists take the traits of one class, in order to create an object of a different class.

For the less technically inclined, this means that Alchemists recycle one or more objects, take their properties, and incorporate said properties to form a new object.

James, for what it was worth, picked up the skill readily and deftly. He came away from his trainings with an increased appreciation for both the cycles of the world, and for the Alchemy that composes it.

Most importantly, he received a new arm from his practice. Not a human arm- human alchemy is, by rule, disallowed. But an Alchemic arm. One that interfaced with his nerves, composed of strange, blackish material, almost like blackened metal. Its coarse surface at first attracted many glares and distaste, but his demeanor was always too mature to allow his bitter responses through his teeth.

SCHOOL

James Wake went to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. James Wake was a good little boy in school. James Wake was fit boy. James Wake was a prefect. James Wake never spoke out of turn, did his work well, and received five O's on his OWLs. However, James Wake did do one thing wrong right, and that was to find save himself from being entangled in the life of a muggleborn four years younger than him, named Jack Dyllan. The tough little cookie often found her way near him, despite his grandest efforts, as his focus and solitude was a welcome change of pace from the hustle and bustle of her other friends. And James thought Jack was like the coolest ever and they swore to be BFFs for life - pinky swore. He has not seen, nor sought her out ever since his graduation, happy to be rid of the pesky annoyance His focus on physical as well as magical fitness made him a force to be reckoned with in a duel, but he saw no point in the sport. For upon his graduation...

DMF

...

James disappeared. He had found work, and his calling was in more... disreputable places. James became a noted bounty hunter, mostly pursuing rare treasures, but never above assassinating high-profile targets. His primary team was referred to as the DMF, composed of James himself, his mentor and kids whose skills and strengths, through various manipulations, had landed them on the wrong side of the law. The DMF had a long, notable run, killing noted Magisters in Yugoslavia, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, India, and nearly a whole town in Pakistan (Killing muggles is unnecessary and bloody). The group was better known for stealing vital and impressive artifacts from various merchants, men and women of a certain repute, and even the Ministry.

The DMF was broken up following the murder of one Arianna Thomas, a student belonging to an American magical institute by the youngest of the team's members. Jame had found, along the way, that teaching had a certain allure to it that he had never truly considered. Freed of his obligations to the team (who had treated him as a mother more than anything else), James Wake chose to pursue education in wizarding school, returning to Hogwarts for the first time since he had graduated.

But with Harry Potter's about-face and sudden betrayal, the institution had certain... code changes. Ones that Jame felt would hinder students more than teach them. At first, the professional considered resuming his work in the bounty circuit. But a mysterious benefactor had arranged for a different kind of job altogether- a fine, steady stream of galleons to stay with the Order of the Phoenix, sifted through various curtains. James Wake thus chose the side of the "Light," though his attitude had all but soured him on the concept.

...and I just noticed that I have skin instead of metal on your left hand in your signature. -_- In my defense, it's in your right hand in the actual picture. XD I flipped it cause I thought it was more visually appealing this way in the signature. You just wear skin-colored gloves! *nods knowingly.
