Bellatrix comes from the best kept secret in Death Eater history. Bellatrix and Rodolphus were products of a marriage out of convenience, since there had no other suitable purebloods around at the time that Bellatrix's parents wished them to be married. She had refused Rodolphus a child for many years, and even refused him her attentions once she was smitten by the Lord Voldemort. It was her devotion to the Dark Lord which finally resulted in her bearing a child. Voldemort had been adamant about keeping the bloodlines pure, and had told Bellatrix that part of her duty was to bear offspring to maintain the future of the purebloods, since they were becoming so few. Bellatrix finally agreed, and bore Rodolphus a young son which they named Cygnus after Bella's father. Cygnus attended school in Durmstrang, away from the muggle-loving Dumbledore, who didn't allow dark arts to be taught in Hogwarts. He was raised primarily by his aunt, Narcissa, as his own mother had little time for a whiny brat.

Cygnus eventually went on to marry a Russian girl, producing his only heir, Bellatrix Narcissa Lestrange. His wife had died in childbirth, and Cygnus returned to the Malfoy Manor with the un-named babe, leaving it for Narcissa to raise. Narcissa christianed the child Bellatrix after her sister, and Narcissa after herself. The child looked so much like her deceased sister, and Narcissa felt that by raising the child herself, she could make up for the betrayal which lead to her death.

Bellatrix, like Draco, was raised with the pure-blood mania. She seems to have inherited her grandmother's insanity along with her looks. Bellatrix is the bane of any mudblood student who walks the halls of Hogwarts, turning her wand upon them without care for consequence. She has recently learned of Harry Potter's betrayal, and whispered rumors from her grandparents that it is the Dark Lord who is controlling them. While her grandparents are afraid, Bellatrix is excited to join his service, certain that her grandmother's service will outshine the disgrace of the Malfoy's treachery.
